Sliders, and why racing games need them
A button is on or off, but a slider gives you everything in between. Slide your thumb up the track and the input ramps up smoothly, so you can ease into a corner instead of just flooring it.
The one I use most is the combined throttle and brake slider in the racing layouts. Push up for gas, pull down for brake, and there's a little buzz in the middle so you can find neutral without looking down. Real partial throttle on a phone!

Sliders aren't only for pedals, either. Anything a game wants as a smooth amount instead of a yes or no is a good fit, and you can drop one into your own layout in theeditor.
You can also shape how a slider responds, so the middle of the track isn't twitchy and the ends still reach all the way to full. Here's the short version in video.
